Gynecological encounters are one of Dr. Vatsan’s favorites.Though the gynecological anatomy has only few organs and the‘plumbing’ in between, any issues associated with them are often debilitating to the overall well being of women. Dr. Vatsan is passionate about bearing down her deep expertise in this field, including her expertise in minimally invasive procedures using Laproscopy and Robotics to provide a patient centered care that you deserve.
Gynecological issues often involves care at our clinic and at times may require a procedure performed at an outpatient or an inpatient setting. Please read along to learn more about what you can expect from us on some of the most common gynecological issues.
Vaginal discomfort can become a major concern, especially when you experience symptoms such as itching, swelling, bumps, bleeding, discharge, or infection. With each kind of symptom experienced, we will run through special tests and procedures to find out about the cause of that symptom. For instance, in the case of discharge, a wet mount or microscopy can be easily performed at our clinic. Come discuss your symptoms with us so that we can recommend a specific treatment for you.
Breast discomfort can come in the form of pain, mass, lump, nipple discharge, or even cancer. We will conduct a physical exam at our clinic and discuss risk factors specific to your case. If required, we will coordinate with one of the experts in our network for a mammogram and in few cases, a biopsy to aid with the diagnosis and to determine proper course of actions.
There can be a lot of reasons for pelvic pain and discomfort such as STDs, kidney stones or an infection. During the consult, we will engage in a conversation to understand your discomfort in detail. In order to better diagnose your issues, we often perform Ultrasound in our clinic so we can make the most out of your encounter with Dr. Lakshmi. Most women are diagnosed symptoms that are often resolved with proper medication and follow up visits.
Urinary discomfort might lead to symptoms such as painful urination, frequent urination or incontinence. During our consult, if you present with symptoms similar to Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), we will prescribe proper medication and educate you on the course of recovery. Often, we will request a test of your urine to understand the root causes of the issue and gain diagnostic insights. During the course of normal aging process, women present themselves with urinary discomforts out of incontinence and frequent urination, often caused by an Overactive Bladder (OAB). We will partner with you to educate you on what to expect and how to manage the symptoms on an ongoing basis. A variety of medications, medical devices and surgical options are available to rapidly reduce your discomfort. The treatment options have varied degree of effectiveness and success rates. We encourage you to empower yourself with publicly available information on all the options available to you. We will patiently listen to your concerns and questions about various treatment options and partner with you to effectively manage your conditions.
MENSTURAL CYCLE ISSUES
Menstrual cycle issues often lead to symptoms such as painful, irregular, or heavy periods. However, there are wide variety of roots cause for an abnormal menstrual cycle, including change in birth control mechanism, use of other drugs such as blood thinners/steroids, clotting disorders, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, uterine fibroids, polyps, cancer … and the list goes on! As women approach 40 years of age, the M word starts to show on their health radar in phases: Perimenopause, Menopause and Postmenopause. You may be aware that all women experience the stages of menopause during the normal course of aging. What most women may not be fully aware of is the complete physiological effect experienced physically and mentally over the course of different menopausal stages. In a nutshell, Menopause is when your ovary stops to release eggs and the estrogen levels in your body starts to decline. The result: physically you may encounter hot flashes, vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, bladder control problems etc.., and mentally, you may encounter a wide range of issues such as depression, mood swings, insomnia, fatigue etc..,

We will guide you through the proper ways to manage these discomforts, understand risk factors specific to you and intervene only if necessary.
