What is the philosophy of care at this clinic?We take a conservative approach, starting with home remedies for minor issues and scaling up to prescriptions on an as needed basis. Our goal is to support a healthy, low-intervention pregnancy whenever possible.

Who will deliver my baby?Dr. Lakshmi Vatsan delivers at El Camino Hospital, mountain view location only. We have a Call-pool of doctors including Dr. Kirby Tran, Dr. Elena Chan, Dr Maureen Khoo who may provide coverage on weekends/certain Holidays and when Dr Vatsan is on vacation to ensure you’re supported at all times. Please note that you will not establish care with these doctors. Note: This does NOT change your billing setup with the Doctor.

How often will I meet with the doctor?Typically, you’ll have monthly visits until the last month, when visits increase to weekly. If you’re not needing more frequent visits, that’s a positive sign!

What is the philosophy on emergencies?Dr. Vatsan prioritizes true emergencies but respects all concerns, offering multiple resources ( Lovu, portal messaging system) to address them. For after hour emergency medical needs, please visit Labor & Delivery (L&D), urgent care, or the ER or contact Lovu.

Are there webinars or educational resources?Yes, we host webinars on the first Wednesday of every month to provide more information and answer common questions. Go to our patient resource page to find the latest info!

Where can I get lab work and imaging done?We have satellite locations available for your convenience. Our office will provide referral forms for you and provide you with more information.

What foods should I avoid?Foods causing acidity, constipation, or bloating. Excessive caffeine (limit to less than 16 oz of caffeinated drinks per day/ < 200mg caffeine/day). High mercury fish/seafood (refer to FDA guidelines).

What are good protein rich dietary tips for vegetarian moms?Incorporate edamame, tofu, sprouts, grains, and Greek yogurt for balanced nutrition.

How can I manage nausea or indigestion?Ginger candy can help with nausea. Eat small portions at frequent intervals. Avoid high-sugar foods.

Do I need clearance to exercise?No, you do not need clearance unless otherwise specified. Aim for at least 30 minutes of walking daily or consider prenatal yoga. Good news! We are offering prenatal yoga in office and registration details are available now. Click here to learn more.

What is the recommended weight gain?A healthy weight gain during pregnancy is 25-35 lbs for a person who starts with a normal BMI. Higher the initial BMI, the lower is the recommended weight gain.

When should I avoid sleeping on my back?After about 28-30 weeks, avoid sleeping flat on your back. Prior to this, any position is fine to get restful sleep.

Can I travel during pregnancy?The ideal window for travel is 15-25 weeks when energy levels are optimal, and obstetric emergencies are rare. However, you can travel up to 34 weeks with proper precautions.

What symptoms are normal during pregnancy?Breast pain, fatigue, low back pain, mood swings, pelvic pain, nausea, vomiting, acidity, and constipation. These are typically triggered by high progesterone and hcg levels.

When should I contact the clinic?For routine questions or mild concerns, please utilize Lovu or our patient fusion messaging system , you can also call the clinic during business hours. For emergencies, visit L&D, urgent care, or the ER.

Is sex safe during pregnancy?Yes, sex is safe. Light bleeding after intercourse is normal but can be discussed if concerning.

Do you have recommendations for prenatal vitamins?Continue daily prenatals. We do not have a specific brand preference.

What website should I refer to to get more information?Please avoid social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Whatsapp for medical information. How do I maintain a positive mindset?Remember that 90-95% of pregnancies are uncomplicated. Carry positive energy—it benefits you, your baby, and your care team. We support you!
